My work explores identity, memory, and the invisible foces that shape who we become. Using acrylic and oil, i create figurative compositions rooted in cultural transmission and personal history. Within my paintings, Adinkra symbols and pois baoulé* appear as reccuring visual languages that carry ancestral knowledge, rhythm, and encoded meaning. These elements are not ornamental, but act as quiet markers of heritage, resistance, and continuity across time.
Through layered processes of building, erasing, and reworking, my practice reflects cycles of unlearning and becoming. Light functions as a guiding presence, revealing moments of awareness and inner truth. By weaving symbolism with the human figure, my work invites viewers into a space of reflection where personal and collective narratives intersect.

Yasmeen Boudabès is an Ivorian artist currently living and working in Canada. Her artistic pratice has been shaped by her cultural heritage and her experience of living between geographies, allowing her work to move fluidly between tradition and contemporary expression.
She works primarily with acrylic and oil, developing figuarative compositions that explore identity and transformation through layered surfaces and symbolic forms. Yasmeen’s work has been presented in exhibitions and continues to evolve through ongoing research into ancestral narratives, collective memory, and the role of the human figure as a site of transmission.
